- When a comet brings the Absorbing Man back to Earth, the Hulk defeats him by changing back to Banner.

- The Atlantean Warlord Seth uses the lost Horn of Proteus to again call giant sea monsters to attack the surface world.
- The Sub-Mariner aids Dr. Strange in repelling the return of the Undying Ones from another dimension. When Namor and their leader, the Nameless One, fall into the aliens' dimension, Strange pursues and rescues him, but stays behind to hold back the invading forces (and is eventually taken prisoner). Some time later, the Hulk is drawn into this strange dimension by cultists led by Barbara Norris (later the Valkyrie), and after foiling the Nameless One, both he and Strange return to the Earth dimension, leaving Norris behind. Dr. Strange, tired from his long captivity, decides to retire from being a mystic guardian.
- Namor battles a creation of Warlord Krang and Dr. Dorcas: Orka the "human killer whale".
- Magneto manipulates the Sub-Mariner into attacking the surface world, after which he holds Lady Dorma and Susan Richards ransom and proclaims himself "overlord" of the planet. (Shortly afterwards, Crystal is forced to return to the Inhumans due to the rampant air pollution in NYC).
- Namor encounters the hybrid human-Lemurian Llyra who, after imprisoning King Karthon, plans to conquer the surface world.

- The Avengers encounter the Native American superhero, Red Wolf, while Wanda and the Vision begin developing a rapport.
- The Zodiac Cartel hold the Avengers and Manhattan island hostage, until Daredevil foils their plans.
- The Enchantress creates the Lady Liberators: the Black Widow, Medusa, the Scarlet Witch, and the Wasp, led by the enigmatic Valkyrie (actually the Enchantress in disguise using the Asgardian Valkyrie's physical aspect).
